  • Conference Week: Tuesday, September 25th-Friday, September 28th.  Minimum Days. DISMISSAL AT 1:22 each day.  Please be on time as I have conferences immediately after school every day. 
  • Volunteer Applications: Several parents filled out the volunteer form at Back to School Night.  Remember in order to volunteer in our class or on any field trips, you must first fill out a volunteer application.  We currently only have one approved volunteer on the list.  If you are interested in helping in the class and/or going on our first field trip in October, please fill out and return your applications as soon as possible. 
  • Next week is black oval week (don’t forget to wear black on Wednesday) We are studying the letter C, sight word: “can”, _at word family, readers workshop routines, narrative writing (think, then write, adding details, writing the entire time), oval, number position, spatial language, trees, apples and cooking: cornbread.

Reminders/Information

  • Cooking: We will begin cooking next Friday.  If your child has any food allergies and/or dietary restrictions, please let me know as soon as possible. 
  • Parent Teacher Conference reminders went home today.  If you are unable to make your conference date.  Please let me know as soon as possible 
  • Sleep Reminder: We have had several sleepy children in our classroom as of late.  Please be sure your child is getting a minimum of 10 hours of sleep per evening.  Thanks so much!
  • Cold and Flu Season has begun.  If your child is ill, remember they need to be fever free for 24 hours before sending them back to school.
  • Book Bags went home today.  All book bags need to go home and be returned to class DAILY.

    • Go to raz-kids.com, click on Kids Login
    • Teacher name: asierrac
    • Find your child’s name, click on reading, then level up and begin reading
  • STMath accounts have not been set up yet.  Our first day in the computer lab will be Mon., Sept. 24th.  Students should begin to learn their passwords the following week.

  • Meeting/Substitute in Rm. 27: Fri., Sept. 21st.  I will be at a meeting off campus all day.  Before school, please remind your child to listen and follow the directions of the substitute.

  • Screenagers: Tues., Sept. 18th at 6 p.m. in the cafeteria.  Wondering how being plugged in effects your child?  This is the documentary for you.  I hope to see you there!

  • Next week is blue diamond week (don’t forget to wear blue on Wednesday) We are studying the letters: U, V, W, X, Y, Z, sight word: “the”, _at word family, beginning reading strategies (book shopping, book bags, sentence patterns, finding words we know, review partner reading), narrative writing (revising and publishing), Social Thinking: Shared Imagination, diamond, number sense (number track, numbers before and after 10, making groups) trees, apples.

  • Letter “a” formation: I have noticed many students are struggling to correctly form the letter “a.”  The letter “a” is a foundational in the formation of many more letters.  If students struggle with the formation of “a”, they will struggle with many more letters.  Please practice the letter “a” at home.

  • Labor Day: Monday, September 3rd.  NO SCHOOL.  Have a safe and fun-filled 3 day weekend!
  • FULL DAY BEGINS: Thursday, September 6th.  Dismissal at 2:11 p.m. Please make sure your child has a healthy lunch and/or money on their account in the cafeteria. 
  • Empty Backpacks Reminder:As mentioned at Back to School Night, before coming through the gate in the morning, your child should have their lunch/snack, water bottle and anything they need to turn in.  Thank you so much for helping foster independence in your child!
  • Wednesday Envelope Reminder:  Please empty your child’s envelope tonight and RETURN it TOMORROW. 
  • Next week is green triangle week (don’t forget to wear green on Wednesday) We are studying the letters: L, M, N, O sight word: “my”, beginning reading strategies (reading picture, words match pictures), narrative writing (labeling, first sounds, pictures match the words), Social Thinking: Smart Guess, Flexible and Stuck, triangle, number sense (matching quantities #6-10, number tracks), fall

Reminders/Information

  • Healthy Snacks and Lunches:  Please remember our healthy food policy at Pomeroy.  Donuts, cookies and candy are NOT a healthy snack.  In the case of Lunchables, if there is a piece of candy, please remove the candy before sending it to school.  Candy is not allowed at school and your child will be unable to eat it here.  If you do include 1 small “treat” in your child’s lunch, they will be required to eat all of their healthy food first.

Upcoming Events

  • Kinder Full Day begins: Thurs., Sept. 6th.  Please send your child with a lunch or have $ on their account.
  • PTA Meeting: Tues., Sept. 11th at 6:00 p.m. in the staff room.  Any parents interested in learning about the PTA are welcome to attend.
  • Bus Evacuation Drill: Thurs., Sept. 27th. Students will practice getting on and off the bus in case of an emergency.
  • Conference Week: Sept. 25th thru Sept. 28th.  If you have not done so, please sign up for a preferred date outside our classroom.
