Dear Parents,

I hope your April~Spring Break was restful and enjoyable. It's hard to believe that 2nd grade is almost over. We only have a month and a half left of school. That being said... it is more important than ever to support you child in their education to achieve grade level standard or to show improvement towards it. Our work is not over, so please, remind your child to be safe, responsible and respectful throughout the day.

Spelling: We have finished our Sitton Spelling list of 2nd grade words for the year. We will continue to do activities to support their spelling throughout the day. I sent a list of all the words your child is expected to know how to spell before entering 3rd grade home with their homework packet. I encourage you to be creative and invent games to play.

Writing; We are in the process of publishing our Opinion pieces. The expectation is for your child to be able to support their opinion by writing at least three reasons/facts why they are in favor of one idea more than another idea. The goal is for the piece to have an introduction, an opinion, three reasons to support their opinion and a conclusion. This also includes COPS!! Our last genre will be poetry.

Reading; Our focus has been on character development. I have been reading a variety of stories that are from a different of series. We have begun comparing and contrasting their different character traits, behaviors and passions. Hopefully, your child will want to read more stories from these series. Reading is for the enjoyment of learning and discovering new ideas about people, places and the world.

Math: We have finished Module 11. This Module focused on multiplication,3D objects called polyhedrons and money. The last module,12, will focus on division, fractions, areas, weight and measuring.

Science: Balance, Motion, Force and Energy.

Here are some important dates:

April 27th- Lifeskills Assembly on the blacktop

                Children's Discovery Museum (all day)

May 1st-Literacy Night (5:30-7:00 p.m. Cafeteria)

Thank You for all of your support!!
