Dear Parents,

Halloween was a huge success! The children enjoyed seeing our whole school parade around on the blacktop in their costumes. I think their favorite part was watching all the teachers in their "Outer Space" outfits!

Once we made it back into the classroom and into our regular outfits, I passed out playdough for them to enjoy creating and talking to each other. It lasts longer than candy! We read some Halloween books: Pumpkin, Pumpkin, Dem Bones, Big Pumpkin and The Dream Tree. We discussed the Day Of The Dead holiday and its importance in our lives. They will be coming home with a mask that they decorated in honor of this special day. Then, we got down to business and finished our endings to the Magic Garden, Math 4.9, and computer lab for ST-Math.

Writing; We are in the process of publishing our Magic Garden stories. Our next genre will be learning to write a procedural piece. They will be teaching the reader how to do something. The focus will be on learning how verbs are used to specifically tell and show the reader how to do it step by step.

Reading; Our focus will be on NF books. Learning the difference between opinions and facts. Focusing on how these stories are written and set-up differently than a narrative.

Math: This week will finish Module 4 and start on 5. This unit focuses on adding and subtracting 2 digit numbers, place value, bridging/carrying, story problems and comprehending directions.

Social Studies: Map Skills
