Dear Parents,

I hope your February break was restful and enjoyable. It's hard to believe that 2nd grade is almost over. If you have any questions regarding your child's report card, please, let me know, so I can explain my assessments. We only have 3 more months left of school. That being said... it is more important than ever to support you child in their education to achieve grade level standard or to show improvement towards it.  Our work is not over, so please, remind your child to be responsible and respectful throughout the day.

Spelling:Each week your child will be writing sentences for each spelling word using punctuation and capital letters. They have been sorting their words using ABC order, long vowel, digraphs, r-controlled vowel, silent e and other. Please, practice the spelling words everyday! Their goal is getting a 4 on their Friday dictation sentences.

Writing; We are in the process of publishing our hero reports. They will be writing and comparing a family hero with an important person in our history. The introduction explains why these two individuals are important and how they have changed lives along the way. The conclusion, encourages others to get involved to make a difference along the way and to find out what your child is passionate about learning.

Reading; Our focus has been on learning about important people around the world and how they have helped to improve our lives and lives of other people. Comparing and contrasting their different talents and passions gives your students more ideas to explore in reading.

Math: We have begun Module 9. This unit focuses on adding and subtracting 2 digit and 3 digit numbers, place value up to the hundreds place, measuring using centimeters and meters and using line plots in graphing.

Social Studies: Our Government

This Unit focuses on leaders, heroes and law making in our country.
