Welcome Miss Keech

Dear Room 8 Families,

I would like to take this opportunity to welcome Miss Keech to our classroom. She is a wonderful young teacher. She will be completing her last assignment in our room on her journey to becoming a teacher. For the first few weeks she will be observing and then taking over teaching activities in the classroom. She will then have two weeks of solo teaching time. She will be with us until June. Please give her a warm welcome!

A reminder that report cards went home on March 9th, please return envelopes as soon as possible. We have parent conferences this week so school will be dismissed at 1:22 each day. Then the students do not come to school on Thursday, Mach 15th or Friday, March 16th., because all teachers will be in training.

Last Saturday was our school district's Young Author's Fair. Omar read a passage from our book of Odes. He did a great job! Pomeroy had a full house representing the talented young authors in our school. Thank you to everyone who attended. It was a great event.

This week we tool the district writing test to see what we have learned so far this year. Then we will be back to  work on sentence structure and rules for writing a clear paragraph with details, introduction and conclusion. We will continue working on opinion writing too. This is a difficult concept so we will be spending several weeks on this.  In math we are taking the third test for our school district and then we will start Module 10 next week. We take a multiplication test every Friday.  Ten students have successfully passed all their multiplication tests through 12. Practice every day please!  In social studies we are continuing to learn about events that have helped shaped California. We will be reading about the missions, the gold rush and the transcontinental railroad. In science we finished with our studies of the Earth, Moon and Sun. We will be starting our new unit in April. We will be having the maker cart come on March 21st to do some fun hands on science activities. We finished reading our chapter book, Charlotte's Web. Now we are doing some finishing up activities and watching the movie to compare the book.  We are practicing our recorders too! Make sure that your child brings their recorder and music book every Thursday.

Our students have many opportunities for resources on line. I will be sending home progress reports for ST Math. Your child should be at 65% completion. This is part of their homework.  We have ST Math, RAZ Kids, Typing Agent and Footsteps to Brilliance. Codes have been sent home for all programs. All these programs are valuable resources and will make third grade more successful. Typing agent needs to be used on a computer or a tablet with a keyboard.  I will continue to check each week to make sure students are trying these sites at home.

Remember just send me a note or an email if you ever have any questions or concerns

Multiplication Fact Struggles

Every  Friday we have a multiplication fact test. This is a timed test, so speed and accuracy are important.  Every night students should be practicing their multiplication facts. We must know these to be successful in third grade.

I will send home songs to help the students remember the facts.

The idea of drilling and memorizing the facts is the best way to get those facts to to stay in our brains.

Practice, Practice, Practice!

Read every night, sign up for a  library card or visit a book store. I will update everyone's RAZ Kids reading levels as students progress. Practice your math facts! Flash cards are quick and easy to make, unless you bought them. Fact Monster  ( is a great resource too! ST Math should be played every night also. We have Footsteps to Brilliance as well as Typing agent to help.

Snacks Needed Please

We love snacks for recess with all our fun learning activities. We get hungry by recess.  Crackers, goldfish, pretzels are all healthy choices.
